first week down

Well...it's now been a week since I started Weight Watchers and as of this morning I am 3 pounds lighter!  I am so excited!  I feel like right now I can see the biggest difference in my face and the dreaded double chin when I smile.  I know this is going to be a very stressful week with my final paper being due for my English class and my final for Pharmacology due by next tuesday, I don't want that to affect the way I am dieting and exercising.  Now back to my paper...until next week!

New Year's Resolutions!

So....with January almost halfway over I have finally started to take the first step to fallowing my New Year's resolution.  With heart conditions running in both sides of my family I decided that it's time for me to really start taking care of myself and watching what I eat and try to lose some of the weight I gained while I was pregnant and after I had my daughter.  Two day's ago I decided I was going to sign up for weight watchers.  I was already doing it once before I got pregnant and really enjoyed it.  Today was my second day on the program and feel like I am really on the right track.  I hope everyone has been successful in staying on track with their New Year's resolutions also!  Good Luck!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The last two weeks has definitely gone by way too fast!  We has two weeks off from school and I can't exactly say that I got any further on catching up on my reading.  It never fails, it seems like there is always something going on or something that needs to be done.  I always seem to forget how busy the holidays are.  I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  I know I did!  I am still reminded every day by my daughter that "Santa made me happy because he gave me 2 candy canes, a bike, and a Dora helmet!"  You gotta love Christmas!

Final Paper First Draft....UGH!!!!!!!!!!

So....it is now 11:20 pm on a Tuesday and I just got done typing up my first draft for my final paper for college comp.  As much as I dislike writing, I have to admit I have had a nice time doing all of the research for may paper.  This summer my sister was diagnosed with what doctors believe to be Parkinson's disease.  At first I was shocked and very upset with this diagnosis.  It still bothers me and I wish I could be closer to her since she lives in Minnesota and I am in Colorado, but especially after doing so much research for my paper I feel a little better that with the right care and treatment she can still live a long life.  I am hopeful that since she is still rather young that there may a cure for this disease before he symptoms become out of control.

Getting Caught Up!

So....I can't believe that we are already in week of this term!  That means the term is already halfway over!  Where has the last five weeks gone?  With that said, I am so far behind in my Pharmacology reading that I am having to spend hours reading just to try to get caught up.  I think I just finally got done reading the chapters for Unit 3 last night.  I don't know what happened, but I am definitely going to go back to using a study schedule once I get caught back up to help me stay on top of my reading.  I made one in my first term here at Kaplan and it worked great.  I think I just thought that maybe I didn't need it anymore since I have been doing this for a little while.  Once I get it made I need to make sure that I follow it so I don't get behind again.  Well...off to reading some more!  Happy Blogging everyone!

Good Cause

I think that it always makes you feel better when you know you have done something to help someone who could really use the help.  I know it does me.  I had a great opportunity to experience that this weekend.  On Sunday morning when I could have slept in a little longer then normal I decided I was going to get up at 6:45 am so that I could go volunteer at our local Soup Kitchen.  This was the first time that I had ever done this, even though I had been wanting to do so for a long time.  I got to do it with some great friends and found that it was a very fulfilling feeling, even though I already knew that it would be.  It definitely helped open my eyes to the needs of the community.  I plan on trying to volunteer at least once every couple of months because I always feel the need to help people.  Volunteering at the Soup Kitchen has also gotten me very excited to start working on my Relay for Life team.  I started team a couple of months but haven't really gone very far with it yet.  I need to really kick it in gear though if I am going to get team members and a goal met before June 17th!  My team name is Strides for Hope and if you would like to donate to the team here is our link.

Just like the Soup Kitchen this is something completely new to me so I am a little bit nervous that I'm not going to do well or get done what I need to, so wish me luck!

First Post

If you are reading this you can obviously tell that this is my first post on my blog.  I am little nervous because I have never had a blog before so I am not exactly sure how to start so guess I am going to do a little self introduction.  I live a smallish town called Durango in the southwest corner of Colorado.  It is a beautiful and wonderful place to live but it is very expensive to live hear.  I think the last time something was post in our local paper they said that the median cost of a house here was $450K with low income not being much lower then that.  I have been marries for a little over a year and I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter.  She is so smart and she loves to dance, sing, and read all of her books.  We have 2 dogs that I think she has aged by about 10 years, but she loves them so much!  It's kind of funny but little sad because they are so afraid of her.  I have 2 sisters and a brother.  My brother lives here in Durango also but my sisters live in Wisconsin and Minnesota so I don't get to see them as often as I would like to.  In my spare time, what little I have, I love to go camping, fishing, and spending  a lot of time with my friends and family.  I think that one of the best fish and the best fishing experiences I have ever has was when I caught a 22 lb channel catfish.  I was with my uncle and cousin and we stayed up all night fishing.  We also got a an 18 lb catfish that night.  We had a blast and have been a few more times since then.  To me, that is the best way to spend a nice weekend!  It has been a while since we have been able to go fishing like that, but I look forward to doing it again next summer I hope!
